As a kid I watched the Olympics,
One gunshot started a race.
8 black men running.
As a child I asked my dad why they are all black.
Apparently being born black, is being born
with a predisposition to be fast.
I like the sound of this!
As a man I sit at home and watch the news.
One gun shot, fired by police officer, one black man dead.
The news shows a selection of others killed by the police.
My nephew asks me why they are all black.
Apparently being black, is being born,
With a predisposition to hold a lower value in society.
Apparently being born black, is being born,
With a predisposition to be prejudicialy treated,
By a judicial system which is preordained,
To be prejudice against you.
I don’t like the sound of this.
To be honest, when I weigh up the pros and cons,
I’d give the speed and the bullets back together.
Even the fastest man can’t outrun a bullet.
One gunshot can start a race,
One gunshot can start a race riot,
One gunshot can end a life!
